There are basically six types of permissions in Windows: Full Control, Modify, Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, Read, and Write. List Folder Contents is the only permission that is exclusive to folders. You've just run into a peculiarity of psql on Windows. In my comment I just wanted to exclude the possibility that you really didn't have the necessary permission. Then it turned out that even on Windows, you have to use 'normal' slashes instead of backslashes, that is.

  • Windows 10: Fix ALL Permission Errors To transfer images to my laptop from any device/laptop that's connected in my house to the WiFi (or if I'm out and about elsewhere and know my external IP) without having to install drivers for Android, Windows Phone, Apple, etc.
  • Is there an (easy) way I can access my Windows 10 files (let's say a.txt file in Documents and Settings) from Bash? I have found my files through Bash, but it's returning Permission denied when I try using a ls command, even when I right-click Bash on Ubuntu and Run as administrator.

Description

After upgrading my old GitHub program to GitHub Desktop program. I started contributing to a project at Wikimedia Foundation. I already created a SSH key and added it to GitHub and to my gerrit.wikimedia.org accounts.

Version

  • GitHub Desktop: 1.2.0
  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 [Build Version 15063]

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open GitHub Desktop
  2. Run this in Powershell in a repo with non-published commits: git review -R

Expected Behavior

Should publish commit to a Git server (in my case: https://gerrit.wikimedia.org)

Actual Behavior

👋@SuriyaaKudoIsc. We have a help article that walks through how to resolve these permission denied errors. If you continue to run into errors, please share the output of the following command:

ssh -vT git@gerrit.wikimedia.org

@SuriyaaKudoIsc Can you download Git for Windows and try running the command from there? I also forgot to link to our help article that walks through how to resolve this in my initial reply -- sorry about that! Here it is:

@steveward The output in Git for Windows:

@SuriyaaKudoIsc Did you possibly generate that key using PuTTY? The error you are receiving is common with keys generated by PuTTY. We recommend using Git for Windows to generate SSH keys.

commented Jun 26, 2018

@steveward I generated the key in Git.

I think this problem is solved. I'll open a new issue ticket if I get this issue again.

I am seeing a bit of activity on my answer so I decided to improve it a bit for those with this issue still

There are basically three main methods of achieving administrator execution privileges on Windows.

  1. Running as admin from cmd.exe
  2. Creating a shortcut to execute the file with elevated privileges
  3. Changing the permissions on the python executable (Not recommended)

Since in Windows there is no sudo command you have to run the terminal (cmd.exe) as an administrator to achieve to level of permissions equivalent to sudo. You can do this two ways:

  1. Manually

    • Find cmd.exe in C:Windowssystem32
    • Right-click on it
    • Select Run as Administrator
    • It will then open the command prompt in the directory C:Windowssystem32
    • Travel to your project directory
    • Run your program
  2. Via key shortcuts

    • Press the windows key (between alt and ctrl usually) + X.
    • A small pop-up list containing various administrator tasks will appear.
    • Select Command Prompt (Admin)
    • Travel to your project directory
    • Run your program

By doing that you are running as Admin so this problem should not persist

  1. Create a shortcut for python.exe
  2. Righ-click the shortcut and select Properties
  3. Change the shortcut target into something like 'C:path_topython.exe' C:path_toyour_script.py'
  4. Click 'advanced' in the property panel of the shortcut, and click the option 'run as administrator'

This is a possibility but I highly discourage you from doing so.

It just involves finding the python executable and setting it to run as administrator every time. Can and probably will cause problems with things like file creation (they will be admin only) or possibly modules that require NOT being an admin to run.

Change the permissions of the directory you want to save to so that all users have read and write permissions.

THis happened to me on a Windows machine using Pycharm.

The fix: Right-click your PyCharm application and run it as administrator.

Windows utilities are available that can format hard drives greater than 32 GB with FAT32. Usb 2.0 portable hard drive.

Permission Denied Windows 10 Files

Make sure the file you are trying to write is closed first.

The problem could be in the path of the file you want to open. Try and print the path and see if it is fineI had a similar problem

but after adding this code:

It Worked perfectly

The problem here is your user doesn't have proper rights/permissions to open the file this means that you'd need to grant some administrative privileges to your python ide before you run that command.

As you are a windows user you just need to right click on python ide => select option 'Run as Administrator' and then run your command.

Permission Denied Windows 7

And if you are using command line to run the codes, do the same open the command prompt with admin rights.

I faced a similar problem. I am using Anaconda on windows and I resolved it as follows:1) search for 'Anaconda prompt' from the start menu2) Right click and select 'Run as administrator'3) The follow the installation steps..

This takes care of the permission issues

Double check and make sure the file you are trying to write to is not open or some program in the background is not holding on to this file/data. This was the problem for me.

I faced above error while working on excel and my excel was open then i closed & tried to run my code. It worked for me.

Your File must be open. Close your file and run the code again, it should work.
