This sounds pretty cool. I'm confused on why it would be necessary though. Most access points already cover a decent range. Why would someone need to do this?

Could it be used in a home scenario where you don't have a wireless router, but you do have a wireless NIC?

It´s designed for situation where you have no public wifi. One can share for example his 3G connection (or modem connection) with others at a meeting, so the laptop with 3G can act as wifi accesspoint for all other people in the meeting. Or you can share one public wifi access with other so you can share your costs, if you have to pay for it.

Mesh network allows you to extend the range of your wireless network by using a laptop as a hop. So for example what I'm doing is using a laptop in the middle of the house to get the connection on the right side of the house to the left side of the house. That way I can sit in bed on my ipad.
    There is one missing step.

You need to make sure you share your internet connection between your two wireless network cards.

Hey, thanks for the info, I connected the router but it says no internet connection, I was unable to access the internet with the other computer, could it be that need to make sure you share your internet connection between your two wireless network cards, you said its the missing link? If that's so how do I do it? Both systems are HP notebooks

    Hola,

I tried Ad-Hoc network (Internet Sharing) from Win7 and sharing to iPad. I solved it by sharing the VirtualAP with WEP security configured. It wouldnt work with WPA2 security. // Joakim
